Easy Green Smoothie Bags

Easy Green Smoothie Bags

I’m still full! Stuffed! Two turkey dinners left me utterly and completely stuffed.  In the best possible way, of course. 🙂  So, Monday morning I whipped not just one smoothie, but a whole weeks worth. These little smoothie bags make my daily smoothie regime much easier.  Instead of prepping all the ingredients each morning, I just dump one of these little bags in the blender and add a wee bit of oj and coconut milk.  Easy peesy.

The secreat ingredient to these little bags is the green ice cubes.  They do require some prep, but they are packed with green goodness… kale, spinach, and a touch of mint.  A regular detox cocktail. By whipping up green juice and freezing it in ice cube trays, I don’t have to worry about my greens going bad and I can pack more greens into my smoothie. Which I certainly need these week.  Here’s to detox.

Easy Green Smoothie Bags

Ingredients:

Green Ice Cubes
6 handfuls kale, chopped
6 handfuls spinach
The juice of one lemon
6-10 fresh mint leaves
4 cups water

Smoothie Bags
Green Ice Cubes
2 cups frozen mango chunks
2 bananas
4 cups frozen mixed berries

Smoothies
1 cup orange juice
1 cup coconut milk
1 Smoothie Bag

Yields: 8 smoothie bags
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Chill Time: 3 hours

Method:

1. Place half of kale, spinach, lemon juice, mint, and water in blender.  (I had to blend the green juice in two batches.) Blend for several minutes or until smooth.  Pour juice into ice tray.  It makes 32 ice cubes, enough to fill two ice trays. Freeze.

2. Peel bananas and cut in half. Get 8 freezer-safe, quart size bags. Place 4 ice cubes in each bag. Add 1/2 cup berries to each bag. Place 1/2 cup mango in 4 bags and 1/2 a banana in 4 bags. I like having two different flavors to choose from, but you can do all mango or all bananas.

3. To make a smoothie, add 1 cup oj, 1 cup coconut milk, and one green smoothie bag.  Blend until smooth.
