Paleo Starch Free Baking Powder

Paleo Starch Free Baking Powder
Paleo Starch Free Baking Powder: A two-ingredient alternative to store bought baking powder. All you need is 3 minutes, a bowl and a whisk. Easy peasy! (gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegan, nut free, soy free, corn free, oil free, refined sugar free)Store bought baking powder is typically made with cornstarch. When my family first went corn free I had no idea what to use in place of our trusty old baking powder. I wound up continuing to use our cornstarch-laden baking powder and hoping that it would not affect my daughter. She was having reactions to corn through my breast milk and I didn’t think that the small amount of cornstarch in baking powder would affect her through my milk. Boy was I wrong!

Once I realized that we needed to get rid of our store bought baking powder I took to google. I found out that Hain baking powder is made with potato starch instead of cornstarch. This was such good news. I was overjoyed! I could begin baking for my family again. In comes the bad news. I called every grocery store in our area and NONE of them carried this baking powder. If you have a Whole Foods near you then they likely carry it. Otherwise you will probably need to purchase Hain baking powder online. I needed a quicker solution so I decided to give homemade baking powder a try. It turns out that it is so easy to make and only requires 2 ingredients, a bowl and a whisk. It is literally done from start to finish in 3 minutes max. What a relief.

This recipe is starch free. I recommend making a small amount at a time, as it tends to clump over time. You can always whisk the mixture again if you have some left over and want to use it at a later date. If you are looking for a corn free baking powder recipe that does not clump click here.
