Weeknight Wonders: Best Spaghetti Sauce Ever

Weeknight Wonders: Best Spaghetti Sauce Ever

Buongiorno!  Hope that you had a lovely weekend.  We are still adjusting to little Noah and his night feedings, but we are ridiculously happy. I mean look at that face.

The past two weeks families from our church have been bringing us meals and it has been such a blessing.  Rather than worrying about dinner, I’ve been able to nap in the afternoons and cuddle with my little love. My mom even brought over a meal last week… one of my and Jason’s absolute favorite meals, spaghetti!  After I tasted the sauce, I asked her if I could share it here on A Sweet Simple Life and luckily for you, she said yes! It is literally the best spaghetti sauce I’ve ever tasted in my life.

The real secret to this sauce is butter.  I know butter is probably the last thing you think about when you are making marinara sauce, but just a tad of butter balances out the acidity in the tomatoes and gives the sauce a richer flavor.  My mom also uses a blend of sweet and hot Italian sausage and it is so good.  Serve over some gluten-free pasta with a little basil and parmesan, and you are in business.  It freeze well and I used the leftovers as pizza sauce.  So good. Make it! You won’t regret it!

1/2 pound sweet Italian sausage
1/2 pound hot Italian sausage
2 28 ounce cans crushed tomatoes
3 large cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
8 ounces gluten free spaghetti
Parmesan
Fresh Basil

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Yields: 8 servings

Method:

1.  Remove sausage from casings and brown over a medium high heat until browned. Drain grease and set aside.

2. In a large pot, mix tomatoes, spices, olive oil, and butter. Stir in sausage.  Bring sauce to a boil, cover, and let simmer for 30 to 40 minutes.

3. Cook pasta according to package directions.  Serve sauce over pasta and garnish with fresh basil and parmesan.
