But there is one pizza that he really craves and for whatever reason, we just can’t find it around here. Philly Cheesesteak. Not just any Philly Cheesesteak Pizza (of course, because nothing’s ever easy), it has to be this certain pizza with a blue cheese dressing sauce and layers of steak, red onions, and cheese. You can only hear about these lamenting so many times before you just cave in and agree to make it!
So there I was on Friday, thinly slicing steak and John was next to me shredding cheeses. And I realized that one of the most fun parts about both of us living here is that we really do enjoy ourselves – we have fun just about anywhere but where we connect most of all is in the kitchen (no surprise). Best of all, we sat down to ate the pizza and John proclaimed it almost “spot-on” to the original.
Philly Cheesesteak Pizza
Serves: 4
8 ounces steak
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 red onion
1 pizza dough
1 cup blue cheese dressing
1 cup cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups mozzarella cheese
Preheat the grill to medium heat. Season the steak with salt and pepper. Slice the onion into thin rings. Grill steak 8 minutes per side and onions 2 minutes, per side. Let the steak rest for 5 minutes and then thinly slice the steak.
Preheat the Roll out the pizza dough and spread blue cheese dressing over it. Top dressing with half of the cheeses and then steak and onions. Top with remaining cheeses. Bake for 15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and dough is cooked through. Cut into 8 slices and serve immediately.
